storytelling with skills in editing, social media, SEO, email design, and marketing strategy

Hi, I'm Kristen! (she/her)
I am a writer, editor, and digital marketing specialist living on unceded Lekwungen Territory, otherwise known as Victoria, BC.

Storyteller first and foremost, visual communicator second. My experience in copywriting, editing, and digital marketing bridges my passion for sustainability, inclusivity, and community to create a well-rounded and robust communication style for both print and online. My writing skills vary from long-form feature articles and journalistic pieces to more succinct social media, email marketing, and website-specific content, including SEO; I enjoy relating information however it's best suitable for the reader.

I specialize in writing stories about environmental issues, which started when I worked for a small-town newspaper in southwest England, where I had my own environment column and led an investigative series about hundreds of plastic nasal spray bottles that were washing ashore along England's southwest coast and what this could mean for ocean plastic pollution cycles. I've been published in FOLKLIFE, The Navigator, Incline Magazine, and weekly in South Hams Newspapers.

I hold a BA in Creative Writing and Journalism from Vancouver Island University and a Diploma in Writing and Publishing from Okanagan College.

In 2020 I was awarded the Barry Broadfoot Award for Creative Non-Fiction and Journalism.

In my spare time, I can be found cozied up at home with a book or a puzzle, or listening to the calls of varied thrushes among the old-growth trees.
